Hi there. I’m about to do a Project for a Registered Charity. It will involve circa 100-150 hrs. work. How should I ask them to pay me. I already work 1 or 2 days per week with a Retail Outlet and get paid in the normal way under my PPS no.
This is a private Project for me and I will be billing them a flat hourly fee which includes all expenses etc., involved in sourcing, designing and Project Managing for the summer months. Even so, it will not push my earnings over 20,000euro for the year if it is combined with my other earnings.
Hope you can help me. Kinda need an urgent reply. Many thanks.
Hi Marie,
Firstly you need to establish whether you will be hired as an employee or as a self-employed person. See the Revenue leaflet for more information on this. http://www.revenue.ie/en/tax/i.....status.pdf
If you are an employee then you will get paid in the normal way.
If you are a self-employed individual you will need to register for taxes and submit a tax return in 2012. Once the project is finished you can de-register. However, if your income from this project is less than €3,174 you may be able to get this income taxed with your employee income by amending your tax credits which could eliminate the need to separately register for tax and file a tax return. See here for more details.
As a self-employed person you could invoice the charity weekly, monthly or on completion of a section of the project. You will need to agree with the charity that you will get paid x days from the date you submit your invoice.
Best regards,
Orla
